With the passage of time, significance of change management in the eyes of both academics and practitioners has increased to a great extent. Globalization, increase in competition and scientific innovations have forced organizations to develop an ability to change. In current era change has become important for organizations to compete, grow or even survive. The aim of the research was to find out whether an effective change management can make mergers more successful. Objective of the research was to create a roadmap and useful guidelines for practitioners and leaders of change.
In the very early stage of the study, it became clear that the rate of failure of change events is very high.  In the later stage, many different sources supported the fact that change is a complex, lengthy and difficult process. Without clear road map and effective leadership, companies are unlikely to implement change successfully. The research was thus focus on investigating the reasons and factors which lead to failed mergers and other change events.  Moreover, the research investigates the role of leadership and communication to overcome the resistance to change. The research is based on secondary data and findings of relative literature review, aiming at the understanding of the topic and constructing a useful and a theoretical solution for the relevant problems.
In the earlier chapters, introduction about change management process and its significance is discussed. First, the relevant literature on change management was studied and a complete picture of existing models and theories of change were offered. Consequently the reasons and factors which lead to failure of change initiatives were identified. Main reason for failed change initiatives is the resistance to change shown by people. Later in the dissertation, recommendations can be found to overcome the factors which lead to resistance to change.
As a conclusion, guidelines are suggested for designing a construct to initiate the change events. Moreover, a new framework for leaders is introduced to overcome resistance and facilitate the change process.
