Thesis Abstract / Summary:

A study of the production of three strains of Plerutos sajor-caju on varying levels of rice bran and corn bran with saw dust as major substrate component under MSU condition for 30 days fruiting, conducted at the Plant Science Department, College of Agriculture, Mindanao State University in Marawi City from January to March 2014. The three strains used were No. 781 (S1), 572 (S2), and 756 (S3). The data was analyzed using Randomized Complete Block Design replicated five times with flushing periods as blocks.
Result showed that there were no significant differences between rice bran and corn bran but corn bran give a little bit higher production of 4.2 kg of basidioocarp produced, while rice bran has only 4.1 kg of basidiocarp within 30 days of fruiting. Treatment combination M2S3D gave the highest average weight produced (0.88 kg) while M2S1B gave the lowest weight of basidiocarp produced (0.27 g). for 30 days fruiting.
The effect of strains and level of substrate were also found significant with S3 (0.68 kg ave.) and level E (0.71 kg ave.) performing better than the rest of the treatments. The main effect of the minor substrate components and the diameter of the basidiocarp were found to be highly significant with both corn and rice bran (M1-0.57 kg) and level E (6.19 cm). Among the interaction effects, M1S3 combination gave the highest average diameter of 61.46 cm.
The minor component substrates and levels of substrates also gave highly significant effects on the length of stipe. Rice bran (M1) which gave the average length of 2.27 cm performed better than corn bran with has an average length of only 1.91 cm.
The level of substrate components rice bran and corn bran as a source of carbohydrates combined with sawdust as major component should be studied further. The arrangement of spawn inside the mushroom growing house must be studied further to achieve the maximum production of Pleurotus sajor-caju in MSU, Marawi City and other areas with similar environmental condition.
