Thesis Abstract / Summary:

Rice Crop Manager (RCM) is a decision tool that utilizes all the capabilities of the previous Nutrient Manager plus customized guidelines on crop management practices best suited for specific rice-growing conditions. This technology is very useful in increasing yield in the lowland rice ecosystem. This study was conducted to evaluate cultural management practices of the farmers in Brgy. Pasta, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur; to obtain recommendation from the rice crop manager based on their last season rice production management. A prepared survey questionnaire from International Rice Research Institute was used as a tool to interview the farmer. In one cluster farm with 33 farmer-respondents in a population, a sloven formula was used to determine the acceptable number of farmers to be interviewed.

The field was described as rainfed ecosystem with tube well pump as the main source of water. They had grown twice cropping per year with transplanting as the method of crop establishment. They transferred seedling at the age of 18-21 days from seedbed broadcasting. They usually used pre-emergence herbicides to control weeds. The common variety used by the farmer was NSIC Rc160 primarily because of its high yielding characteristics and eating quality. The target yield was from 7 t/ha to 3 t/ha. Among which targeted yield, two fields reached the national yield demand to be self-sufficient in rice, 15 fields outnumbered national yield in rainfed and 13 fields were below of this two constant yield.Recommendation on each field further provided the application of zinc, hand weeding, use of 21-day old seedling, none application of pesticides, and field irrigation.Highest N recommendation was 100 kg/ha, P2O5 was 35 kg/ha, and K2O is 78.20 kg with urea, complete, and muriate of potash as the major fertilizer materials.
