Thesis Abstract / Summary:
Over the past decade, osteoporosis has been the most common major health problem worldwide. World Health Organization (WHO) has ranked more than 75 million people with osteoporosis in Europe, Japan and the USA. In addition, the prevalence of women over 50 years having osteoporosis is increasing by 30 to 40 per cent between 1990 and 2025. Studies found that exercise has a positive impact on osteoporosis, if it exists, and has a major role as a preventive measure for people with high risk of developing osteoporosis; the positive impact includes both physical and mental health.
The purpose of this systematic review is to explore in depth the effectiveness of therapeutic exercises on post-menopausal women with osteoporosis aged 45 and over. An extensive search related to the topic has been done to performed this systemic review. A selection of 19 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) that met the inclusion criteria was made. Then 19 studies were taken for evaluation using the PEDro scale scoring system. 7 were removed because they did not have up to five in the PEDro score and 12 studies were carried forward for data evaluation.
The results evidenced the effectiveness of exercise and the positive impact on osteoporosis. And the quality of life were showed more improvement than bone density and physical functions.
