The study intended to assess the financial performance analysis of selected Commercial Banks for periods of five years (2008-2012) in Ethiopia. These banks are Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), Construction and Business Bank (CBB), Bank of Abyssinia(BOA), Awash International Bank(AIB) and United Bank (UB). It employed ten financial ratios to compare the trend analysis which were used to measure profitability, efficiency management, liquidity management and solvency management. The study used these ratios as the basis for financial performance by basing on the concept of the consolidated audited financial statements for each bank for five years. It intended to assure the acceptance or rejection of hypothesis formulated based on the T-test for the computed average ratios of financial indicators. Hence, the findings were as follows: interns of profitability such OPM, NPM ROA and ROE there is no significant difference trend movement between CBE, CBB, BOA, AIB and UB during 2008-2012. Whereas the empirical findings of efficiency ratios indicated that all selected Commercial Banks perform almost in the same manner for five years periods. The debt management position of all banks also showed the same trend movement during 2008-2012. This was supported by the idea that fluctuations from year to year is in the same manner i.e. as one bank performs a declining trend the other also intended to do the same. Finally, in terms of debt/solvency and risks management indicators such as debt to equity ratio and equity multiplier there is the same trend movement in the respective banks under study. Thus, it was concluded that selected Commercial banks perform financially in same manner that the trend movement for each financial indicator was almost the same over the five years periods (2008-2012).
