Thesis Abstract / Summary:

Varietal evaluation of Cassava (Manihot esculenta) as affected by different fertilizer application was conducted at Barangay Nueva, Sta. Marcela, Apayao from June to February 2016. The study having an area of 1000 m2 (4.5x4 per plot) was laid out in strip-plot design using three(3) replications. Three different fertilizers- zero fertilizer (F0), Organic fertilizer 50% rice hull + 50% vermicompost (F1) and Inorganic Fertilizer (F2) were assigned as horizontal factor while three (3) cassava cultivars were assigned as vertical factor. The cultivars used were Lakan 2, Golden yellow and KU-50.

The performance of the different cassava cultivars as affected by different fertilizer application was determined in this study. It aimed to evaluate the growth and yield of different cassava cultivars, to determine whether cassava cultivars require specific fertilizer application, to identify the best fertilizer application that can be used in cassava production and to determine the production economics of the different cassava cultivars grown under different fertilizer application.

As to initial and final height, highly significance was observed for both fertilizers and cultivars. C3 obtained the tallest while C1 obtained least. There exist interaction for both factors at 5% level during initial height. Moreover, as to final height showed highly significance revealed in the ANOVA.

As to average tubers, shown significant difference (1% level) on fertilizer used. F2 (inorganic fertilizer) noted the highest number of cassava tubers while F0¬ (no fertilizer) had the lowest number of tubers per plot. Significant at 1% level was observed on the average number of tubers among cultivars. KU50 gained the highest number of cassava tubers while Lakan 2 gained the lowest number of cassava tubers. No interaction was noted in both fertilizer and cultivar treatments.
The average fresh weight of cassava tubers was significantly affected by fertilizers (1% level). Heaviest weight was observed at F2 (Inorganic fertilizer). Significant differences (5% level) among cultivars were also noted.

The KU50 cultivar produced the highest yield applied with inorganic fertilizer and Lakan being the least applied without any fertilizer. So as with gross income, net income and RAVC, KU50 produced the highest in all and Lakan being the least.
