The Tail-water Recycling as used in this project is an intra-basin water transfer with similar objectives to inter-basin or interregional water transfers which are basic water management tool and is used here for balancing water supply and demand for hydro-electric generation as a long-term and lasting solution to the problem of low water level at Kainji-Jebba hydroelectric power stations. The proposed solution is in the transfer, back to the Kainji reservoir, of the tail-water releases from the Jebba reservoir and the lateral flow arriving Baro and Lokoja. Study findings shows that out of about 178.36km3 of water lost to the ocean through the Niger delta only 31.23km3 of that is obtained from the western borders of Nigeria and this is the area that is giving Nigeria sleepless nights on the survival of her investments on the hydroelectric power stations of Kainji and Jebba consequent to the construction of the proposed 1,596million cubic metres multi-purpose reservoir at Kandaji by the Niger Republic. Other findings indicated that the transfer infrastructural power requirements are estimated at 38.49MW while the potential power generations by the scheme hydro-power stations were estimated at 728MW. At a discount rate of 10% and 12% respectively, the scheme is expected to earn US$4,278,785,374.00 (N556,242,098,600.00) or US$2,774,626,107.00 (N360,701,393,900.00) more than its cost.
