This study was conducted to assess the residents’ political participation in the local governance in the municipality of Odiongan Romblon. Specifically, the study assessed the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, employment status, monthly income, size of family. Also the level of respondents’ perceptions toward the ways of enhancing political participation in local governance and the level of respondent perceptions toward the barriers of residents’ political participation in local governance in the municipality of Odiongan, Romblon.Descriptive survey research method was used in this study and the respondents were the nine (9) municipal officials and the three hundred sixty two (362) community residents.The elected official- respondents were chosen by using complete enumeration sampling technique while for the community residents the researchers used stratified sampling technique. Frequency, percentage, weighted mean were used to assess the barriers in participation in local governance and t-test to determine the significant differences of respondents toward residents’ participation in local governance.
Based on the conclusion of the study, the researchers formulated recommendations such as the residents must be active in submitting their complaints through suggestions box at the lobby of the municipality, there must have a website presenting the entire major project in which the residents can give their comments. Municipal official should conduct regular assembly meetings to discuss priority programs, activities and financial statements in order that barangay constituents are clarified in all aspects of local governance and community residents must give their support and commitments to participate in local governance.
