Social services (i.e education, health) are services that the government should be providing to the people especially those in the rural communities. This paper aims assess the social services in rural communities of selected municipalities in Tablas Island, Romblon. For the rural community residents, results of the study will create opportunities to have a better access to social services especially in education and health. The study evaluated the educational and health services provided by the local government in each barangay of the municipalities ofCalatrava, Looc and Ferrol.
Descriptive type of research was used in the study, employing questionnaires tpo gather the needed data three hundred fifty three respondents from the identified barangay were selected using random sampling. The data were collected, tabulated and analyzed using percentage, weighted mean and ANOVA.
The questions were categorized into services delivered in terms of primary health care, childcare, maternal health care, health personnel, community involvement, scholarship program and infrastructure for education.
Based on the result of the study, the researchers recommended that the The barangay of Local government unit should focus to improve the following services such as (a) to conduct of regular nutritional seminars to mothers; (b)functionality of botikang barangay; (c) dental services for children; (d) extension of school services to the community (ie. Literacy training for out of school youth, women and children); (e) scholarship program for poor student; and (f) Educational infrastructure like computer learning center and barangay reading center. The municipalities should learn from the experiences of other municipalities especially in delivery of primary health care. The agency involved in delivery educational services should focus more in providing more services to the community especially providing reading center and computer center.
