The Perception Of Muslim Students Towards Catholic Schools In Davao City

This study aimed to find out the perception of Muslim students towards Catholic schools in Davao City for school year 2005-2006.
More specifically, this study tried to seek answers to the following questions:

3. Is there a significant relationship on the Muslim students’ perceptions of Catholic schools in terms of:

3. e Facilities & Services
The respondents of this study were college Muslim students whose age ranged from 16 to 21 years old and studying in the four (4) prestigious Catholic schools in Davao City namely: Ateneo De Davao University, University of Immaculate Conception, San Pedro College and Holy Cross College of Davao. There were 50 respondents from Ateneo De Davao University, 40 from University of Immaculate Conception, 40 from San Pedro College and 40 from Holy Cross of Davao College.
The research method used in the study is descriptive. It is descriptive because the data were collected to test the hypothesis and answer questions concerning the content status of the subject of the study. On the other hand, it is evaluative because it obtains and provides useful information for judging decision alternatives. The instrument used in gathering data is survey questionnaire formulated by the researcher derived from the researches made about the management style of four prestigious Catholic schools in Davao City.
Summary of the Findings
The findings of the study are summarized as follows:
1.) The perception level of the Muslim students towards Catholic schools in Davao City is moderate.
2.) There is no significant difference on the perception of Muslim students towards Catholic schools in accordance with their tribe. The computed value of F is 0.055, which is lesser than the F tabular value of 2.42. The result was not significant and the decision of the null hypothesis was accepted.
3.) There is no significant difference on the perception of Muslim students towards Catholic school when grouped according to the university they are enrolled. The computed value of F is 0.369, which is lesser than the F tabular value 2.42. The result was significant and the decision leads to the acceptance of the null hypothesis.
4.) There is no significant difference on the perception of Muslim students towards Catholic school when grouped by gender. The computed value of Z is 1.28, which is lesser than the Z tabular value of 1.96. The result was not significant and the acceptance of the null hypothesis.
Putting the over-all rating of the Muslim students in all four schools the r computed value of the perception towards Catholic school is greater than the r tabular value, which means it is significant in terms of Environment, Culture & Religion Sensitivity, Curriculum, Scholarship and Facilities & Services.
Conclusion
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions are given.
1.) That the Muslim students have moderate perception toward Catholic schools.
2.) There is no significant difference in the perception of the Muslim students towards Catholic school when grouped by tribe/ethnicity.
3.) There is no significant difference in the perception of the Muslim students towards Catholic school when grouped according to the university they enrolled in.
4.) There is no significant difference in the perception of the Muslim students towards Catholic school when grouped by gender.
5.) There is a significant relationship on the Muslim students’ perception towards Catholic schools in Davao City.
Recommendation
After thoroughly analyzing the concluded research, the following recommendations are stared below.
1.) 1.) That the Catholic and Christian school’s administrators should be involved seriously in inter-religious dialogue with other religious denominations.
2.) 2.) That the Catholic and Christian school’s administration and non teaching personnel should be culturally sensitive with other religious groups by giving services and facilities appropriate for their needs.
3.) 3.) That the teachers of Catholic and Christian schools should create a teaching pedagogy that integrates the culture of the Christians, Muslims and other religious sectors.
